This large bowl is handmade in clay in the Afghan - Pakistan border region in about the first half of the 20th century.

The bowl depicts a deer in the grass. As natural colorants were used to decorate the bowl, the painting became hazy and more charming over time.

The bowl has old delicate matte glazing, in which the 'baking marks' are still visible. As the bowl was made by using local raw materials and traditional simple local techniques, the bowls were stacked on each other with a separator between them while baking. This separator leave 3 tiny dots in the clay and glazing, which adds charm to the bowl, proving its tribal and humble origins.

This is a delicate decorative bowl and should not be used for containing food or wet objects.

Although the bowl is in perfect condition, it is an antique item which carries light signs of age and usage and tiny chips and cracks might be possible.
