This wide hip belt is made by the art of macrame - macramé.

Macramé is a form of textile produced using knotting, dating back to Babylonian times. During the age of the great sea voyages, the art of macramé was very useful for on board the ships, to make hammocks and fishing nets. After a revival in the 1970’s, macramé got somewhat forgotten, but lately it is becoming very popular again.

Within the difficult pattern of knotting, some natural cowrie shells have been used to give you a summery and holiday feeling when you are wearing the belt. Design number 2 has also an antique Afghan Kuchi pending set in the belt.

The belt closes by tying the strings. This makes the belt fit for most waist sizes. The strings van be closed in the front, at the back or on the sides.
